Make Waves!  volunteers have studied and/or visited approximately two dozen aquatic,
health and fitness centers in our region. Here are links to some that have most inspired us:

The Wave

Flathead Valley's (Montana) Premiere Aquatic, Fitness and Fun Center. Everything about The Wave is exceptional. It's a complete, modern facility that's affordable for the whole community. The Wave facility serves as a strong model Make Waves!  It remains a successfully run facility in a community much like ours here in East Jefferson County.

Firstenburg Community Center

Located in Vancouver, WA, and operated by Vancouver/Clark County Parks & Recreation.  Community members often say it is the best thing that ever happened to their community.  Make Waves! has taken special notice of their walking track design and placement.

Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center

This facility is well-known to many Jefferson County residents.  Many Port Townsend residents frequently make the 30-minute trip to SARC to enjoy its amenities.  This facility has been operating with no taxpayer funding since 2002.

YMCA of Grays Harbor

This is another popular facility, located in Hoquiam.  This facility is much larger than the proposed Make Waves! structure, but it has served as a good source for ideas.  Make Waves! is especially inspired by the Teen Room, a popular amenity with the community's teen population.

Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center

The Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center, consisting of two pools, is located just north of High School Road on Madison Avenue.  it is subsidized by taxpayers, but serves as a great model for aquatic features and design.
